COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RUBBER, SHEET, SOLID
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-G-1149, type I.
This commercial item description covers vulcanized synthetic rubber gasket materials of nominal 50 durometer hardness.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be in accordance with the requirements of ASTM D 2000, specific properties as stated below:
Initial Properties
Tensile strength, psi, minimum- 1000
Ultimate elongation, percent, minimum- 300
Hardness, durometer units- 50 + 5
Shall be oil resistant (chloroprene polymer)
Shall be in sheet form, 36 + inch wide x 25 feet + 4 inches long in roll form.
Thickness shall be 1/16 inch or 1/8 inch, as specified (tolerance + 1/64 inch)
The issue of ASTM D 2000 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Workmanship. Sheet rubber shall have smooth surfaces and shall be free from all foreign matter and other defects which may affect the use and serviceability of the finished product.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
