3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material. The chemical composition shall be in accordance with requirements shown in Table I.
3.2 Construction. The calking shall consist of fine strands of lead. Unless otherwise specified, the diameter of the strands shall be from 0.13 to 4.00 millimeters and the length such that it will cling together in handling without excessive unraveling. The talking shall be furnished in rope fern and weigh between 0.45 and 1.04 kilograms per lineal meter, unless otherwise specified. Calking shall be furnished in weight quantities as specified by the contract or order. Calking shall be capable of being applied to a dense structure using a pneumatic hammer without flaking or powdering.
3.3 Workmanship. The calking shall be of uniform quality, clean and free from foreign material and any defects which might render the material unsuitable for the purposes intended.
3.4 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
3.5 Commercial item. The use of the term “commercial item description” in this document does not imply that any item or items offered are not required to conform with all requirements specified herein.
