2.4 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references
cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable
laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Material. The material shall be made from an ethylene-propylene elastomeric compound that will
meet the applicable requirements specified herein. Suggested formulations are given in 6.4 for both grade 1 and
grade 2 material. The material shall contain no low melting point metals such as mercury, lead or antimony used in
either the formulation or preservation and packaging materials.
3.2 Form. The material shall be furnished in the form of sheets, strips, gaskets, packings, seals, or molded
items of the sizes specified (see 6.2).
3.2.1 O-rings. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the required o-ring shall be identified by its PIN (see
1.2.1) and shall have the dimensions and tolerances in accordance with the requirements of the SAE AS 568 dash
number in its PIN.
3.3 Physical requirements of the rubber. The rubber compound used in the gaskets and packing material
shall conform to the applicable requirements in Table I when tested as specified herein.
