4.4 Methods of inspection.
4.4.1 Hardness test. The hardness shall be determined in accordance with
ASTM D 2240.
4.4.2 Immersion medium test. The immersion medium for volume change and
weight change shall be fuel C in accordance with ASTM D 471.
4.4.2.1 Immersion resistance test. The gaskets shall be immersed in the
immersion medium specified in 4.5.2 for 46 ± 1/4 hour at 73.4° ± 3.6°F.(23° ±
1.1°C). Measurements shall be made using an inside divider and a micrometer
caliper calibrated in thousands. After 24 hours of drying time at 73.4° ±
3.6°F (23° ± 1.1°C), examination shall be made for disintegration,
stretching, shrinking, cracking, or distortion.
4.4.3 Weight change test. The weight change shall be determined by using
the weights of specimen in air recorded in 4.4.2 and using the method of
calculation specified in ASTM D 471 to determine the change in weight.
