aging (see 4.5.5) using the procedure specified in 4.5.3.
4.5.8 Hot compression set. Hot compression set shall be determined in
accordance with ASTM D 395. The specimens shall be compressed to 40 percent
deflection, then subjected to the conditions specified in 4.5.5.
4.5.9 Brittleness point. The brittleness point shall be determined by
ASTM D 2137, method A. The test temperature shall be minus 20 ± 2 F (minus 29

minutes.
4.5.11 Oil resistance (Class 1 only). Oil resistance shall be determined by
ASTM D 471. The immersion time and temperature shall be 70 ± 0.5 hours and 212 ±
2 F (100 ± 1.1 C).
4.5.12 Phosphate ester resistance (Class 3 only). Phosphate ester resistance
shall be determined by ASTM D 471. The immersion time and temperature shall be 70 ±
0.5 hours and 212 ± 2 F (100 ± 1.1 C).
4.5.13 Fuel resistance (Class 5 only). Fuel resistance shall be determined
by ASTM D 471. The time and temperature of immersion shall be 70 ± 0.5 hours and
73.4 ± 3.6 F (23 ± 2 C).
